Management Team

SAFE's senior staff have the design and management experience to lead large multi-disciplinary teams. They are trained to meet exacting client requirements, deliver engineering value and manage risk. Graduate staff are recruited from the strongest courses and have exceptional computer skills. Their professional development is closely managed.

NELSON MORGADO
Director - Head of Fire Engineering
Nelson is Director at SAFE and head of Safe Fire Engineering. He has 27 years in the fire industry, and experience in all areas of fire safety: fire engineering, fire risk assessment, fire advice upon design, fire system design / compliance; and project management within the commercial, industrial and high-tech markets. Nelson has excellent working knowledge of European and American fire codes as well as the British codes. He joined SAFE in 2002 from his own Johannesburg-based consultancy practice.

AFSCHIN SOLEIMANI
Associate Director (Middle East)
Afschin is an Associate Director at the Dubai office (this office trades as Ramboll Middle East (SAFE)), He has eight years’ experience in fire prevention and fire engineering in the Middle East, Britain and Canada. Before joining Safe, Afschin worked as a fire inspector for North Vancouver Fire Department. He holds a Masters engineering degree from the University of British Columbia and is an accredited Professional Engineer with the Association of Professional Engineers of British Columbia.

ROMILL BETTANY
Associate Director (Glasgow)
Romill is an Associate Director at SAFE and leads the Glasgow office, bringing extensive and varied experience from the fire industry in Australia. Holding a BEng in fire engineering, he has a good working knowledge of fire, smoke and evacuation modelling techniques as well as an excellent understanding of fire safety codes, for both Scotland and England. Romill has worked on projects around the world and across a wide range of sectors.

NICK BERNABE
Associate Director (Glasgow & London)
Nick is an Associate Director at SAFE. He has over ten years of experience in the construction industry, initially trained as a structural engineer before adding structural fire engineering as his specialty. Since joining SAFE he has set up and now leads the Structural Fire Engineering team, setting several precedents in the City of London with regards to reducing the structural fire rating and fire protection of buildings.

Prior to SAFE, Nick worked as a structural engineer in both London and Italy. His overseas experience includes 3 years in Singapore and the setting up of an engineering based consultancy office in Milan.

MARK YAU
Associate Director
Mark is an Associate Director with SAFE, with comprehensive experience in international building projects in Hong Kong, Shanghai and the UK. He has a PhD in fire engineering.
Mark joined SAFE’s Strategic Fire Engineering team in 2003 from Chiltern International Fire. He has written several articles for fire journals and publications and has lectured on fire engineering, environmental science and building services systems in both the UK and in China.

MARKUS COSMANN
Associate Director
Markus is an Associate Director with SAFE.  He brings extensive and varied experience from the fire industry in Germany and the UK.   He has been involved in commercial, residential, retail, educational, healthcare and assembly/recreation projects involving Fire Safety Engineering, CFD modelling, Evacuation modelling, Code Consultancy, Fire Safety Audits and Fire Risk Assessments.

Markus joined SAFE from LWF, a fire engineering and risk management consultancy, where he worked as Principal Fire Engineer and Head of their Fire Engineering Unit.

PETE MUIR
Associate
Pete is a fire and safety engineer with over 20 years’ fire safety engineering and design experience in a wide variety of fire engineering fields. Peter has also carried out fire risk assessment, hazardous area classification, system compliance audits and project management within the commercial, industrial and offshore markets.

SCOTT HALL
Associate
Scott joined SAFE in 2005 from the Fire Service. He has a degree in fire engineering and is a Graduate Member of the Institution of Fire Engineers. Scott has worked on numerous retail, residential, industrial and commercial developments and combines hands-on Fire Service interpretation experience of building codes, building management plans and practical fire strategies with theoretical and design experience of emergency planning, fire risk management and problem solving for planning.

NEAL O'GRADY
Associate
Neal is an Associate, joining SAFE after serving 7 years with the Dublin Fire Brigade where he developed a broad understanding of both operational and regulatory fire safety. Since joining SAFE, Neal has worked on a variety of UK and international projects involving the development of innovative fire strategies at design stage and comprehensive fire safety management plans for occupation. His skills include a thorough knowledge of UK and Irish fire codes as well as fire science, engineering and CFD modelling for the application of performance based fire safety.
